The Angola Field Group invites you to “Meet the team” that will represent Angola in the ‘Cape to Rio 2014‘ sailing competition, the longest ocean race in the southern hemisphere, Thursday, November 14th, at 8:00 PM at the Viking Club. Their story begins a couple of decades ago when some of the team members, sons of local fishermen on the Ilha, joined sailing classes offered by Clube Naval. Our presenter, Captain Tita Correia da Silva, will give a brief background of Clube Naval, the second oldest naval club in Africa, and introduce us to his team and sketch out details of the race. The team is being sponsored by Angola Cables, a company that is laying undersea cables connecting Angola and Brazil. Captain Tita is an outspoken Angolan whom the Angola Field Group visited at his Zango housing project in 2004.
Everybody is welcome to attend. In close cooperation with the Viking Club, this event is offered free of charge. Beverages and snacks are sold at the Viking Bar which opens at 7:30 PM. Coupons must be purchased.
